The amount of twisting force an engine produces is called its torque. Torque is separate from horsepower and is really a measure of how fast an engine can accelerate its propeller from idle to full speed. More torque means a faster responding throttle. More torque also means an engine can usefully turn a “larger”, i.e. bigger diameter, more blade area and steeper pitched, propeller.
