wing loading

Wing Loading is one means to measure how easy a plane is to fly. It is determined by dividing the plane’s weight in ounces by the total wing area in square inches (wingspan x the wing’s width, known as its chord). Planes with wing loadings in the 12-18-oz./sq. in. usually are gentle and easy to handle. Too light a wing loading makes the plane hard to handle in wind.
